Slave Reperations essays Slavery Reparations is paying the decedents of a slave money because there ancestors were slaves. There are many who are for and many who are against slave reparations. I for one am against slave reparations. For the dependents of black slaves to make demands for special privileges, compensation, and apologies from current Americans (who had nothing to do with slavery) is an ugly moral inversion that makes white Americans guilty because of their skin color (Tracinski). The fact that I am white doesn't mean that I owe something to a black person. Also even if you can trace back to a slave owner, why would you make that slave owners decedent pay a black person when they had nothing to do with it or were even alive back then? Not only are the slaves from that long ago dead but so are the slave owners. Who is the money going to come from? I also know that this same problem has gone on with the Jews from the holocaust and for many other groups. Nothing has been done about that, so where do we start for slave reparations? I am not racist but I would just rather worry about today in American than yesterday in America. How has the decedents of the slaves been affected by the fact that there ancestors were slaves? The reparations argument is based on the unfounded claim that all African-Americans descendants of slaves suffer from the economic consequences of slavery and discrimination (Horowitz). There is no single group clearly responsible for the crime of slavery. Black Africans and Arabs were responsible for enslaving the ancestors of African-Americans. There were 3,000 black slave owners in the United States. Are reparations to be paid by their decedents too? (Horowitz.) What about the debt blacks owe to America? Slavery existed for thousands of years before the Atlantic slave trade was born, in all societies. But in the thousands years of its existence, there was never an antislavery movem ...
